At WGG Kindy, our focus in on having FUN, learning through play and developing the whole child.
A day in the life of Kindy might include a Teddy Bear’s Picnic and Muddy Play one day, and a visit from Brumby the Nature Elf, a science incursion or an excursion to Beach Kindy the next.
Kindy days are also full of opportunities to sing, to tell and listen to stories, to engage in activities to help develop fine and gross motor skills, to paint, to create and to talk about ideas – big and small.
There’s always plenty of time for independent learning, creating and imaginative play – in both indoor and outdoor environments – and to practice being kind, curious and caring with our friends.
As well as learning within the grounds of the Kindergarten, WGG is proud to have unique excursion programs including ‘Beach Kindy’ and ‘Wynnum Walkabout’.
Kindy kids love to have the opportunity to explore and discover connections within our local community. WGG is geographically blessed to be within walking distance of amazing natural and community destinations such as Pandanus Beach on the Wynnum Esplanade, the Wynnum Library and more.
Our educators are constantly striving to deliver the best possible early childhood experience through the delivery of dynamic play-based provocations and a wide range of nurturing and enriching experiences that are aligned with the National Quality Framework and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines.
At Wynnum General Gordon we encourage each child to become independent, learn to play with others and to use language skills, to develop and extend physical abilities, and to increase each child’s awareness of people and the environment.

Stability
Staff turnover at WGG is low and continuity of our staff is testament to the positive environment and culture that exists at WGG. Several of our recently retired staff members happily return as relief teachers and love spending the day enjoying the WGG magic. Most staff members have also been involved at the centre as parents themselves.
Connection to environment.
Whenever possible and practical, we love to learn outside in our beautiful, expansive natural outdoor classroom. We observe birds nesting in our established trees, we watch the seasons change, we dig, plant and harvest in our gardens, we get muddy, we play with bare feet to connect to nature.
Family Partnerships
Families are encouraged to be closely involved in their child’s education on a daily basis. In this collaborative partnership, parents/carers and teachers work together.
Highly Qualified Staff
All Teachers are University-qualified in Early Childhood Education and are registered with the Queensland College of Teachers. All Assistant Educators have Certificate III as their minimum qualification. All staff have Senior First Aid and CPR Training, Blue Cards, Fire Safety, Child Protection, Mandatory Reporting and Manual Handling Training.

Our Philosophy
We honour, value and respect the rights of all children, staff and families and we foster a learning environment that provides a foundation for young children to become global citizens.
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land – the Quandamooka People – together with the unique culture, history and heritage of this Kindergarten. We thank the previous committees and families who planted the seeds for the future generations of children.
We strive to provide an inclusive, inquiry led and play based environment which celebrates and nurtures each child’s unique personality, skills, interests and culture.
Our Environment
We are located on a suburban, tree-lined residential street, close the Wynnum waterfront.
Our two air-conditioned classrooms and large outdoor playground are designed to suit the hands-on learning experiences so important to young children. We provide environments that stimulate and encourage children explore and investigate their world.
We cherish our natural environment. The children make connections with nature as they climb trees, run across the grass, dig in sand and dirt, swing up to the sky and let their imaginations fly.
At WGG, children have opportunities develop awareness and practices of sustainability. Through tending our vegetable gardens, recycling and reusing materials, conserving water and electricity, reading stories and learning songs, the children form attitudes about caring for our world.

Our Logo
More than just a pretty picture, the Wynnum General Gordon logo was redesigned in 2018 by a generous parent in our community and is full of symbolism.
The beach represents our flagship Beach Kindy program, the importance of nature play and our local environment. The children playing on the sand are those who not only belong to WGG, but to our wider community – they are the future custodians, learning to care for this special place. They are wearing hats to show our commitment to and the importance of sun safety. The Pandanus Tree is symbolises the Wynnum waterfront, the knowledge children will gain and the shade it gives as children play, climb and explore among its branches. In the background are the islands of Moreton Bay, making connections to the Quandamooka people and the names of our four Kindy groups: Stradbroke, Coochiemudlo, Moreton and St Helena.
Affiliations
We were affiliated with C&K for many years, and in 2014 we made the decision to change to Lady Gowrie, who have been providing Early Education and Care to Queensland children for the past 75 years. 2020 marks Wynnum General Gordon’s 70th anniversary year.
