2017 saw the children of WGG leave the Kindy gates to walk to Pandanus Beach for our first ‘Beach Kindy’ experience. The few sprinkles of rain couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm and excitement as the children explored, investigated, played, ran, splashed and discovered their way around the freedom this beach environment offered! Climbing the green leafy pandanus trees was a definite favourite activity; as was exploring the many puddles left by stingrays to see what beachy treasures could be found. Turning over rocks led to discoveries of secret homes as the tiniest of crabs scurried out of the sunlight and away from little fingers to safety. Hermit crabs in pointy cone shells, skinny green worms, pandanus tree fruit, fish and sea snails were some of the creatures that were discovered and enjoyed. Sandy hands, wet muddy legs, happy faces and squeals of wonder and delight were the result of uninterrupted time in this natural setting. Leaving the gates has paved the way for gentle footsteps by its future custodians to be made on Moreton Bay.
