Getting to know Mrs Kim Perkins

A big hello from me to all the wonderful Wynnum General Gordon families, I’m Kim Perkins and I work together with Miss Kate, Miss Courtney and the wonderful children and families in the St Helena group.

My passion for working with children in education began while working in Vacation and Afterschool Care programs many years ago. From there I decided to become a Primary School Teacher and enjoyed teaching for five years in grades 2,3,5 and 7. I am also a super, proud mum of two boys.

While my own children attended kindergarten, I developed a love of Early Childhood education. I began working at Wynnum General Gordon Kindy in 2015 in an assistant role and during that time completed an Early Childhood Bridging course for registered teachers. In 2019 I was lucky enough to be able to step into a teaching role at Wynnum General Gordon.

I believe that children bring to Kindy a deep curiosity about their world around them and I love providing opportunities to develop this within learning environments that are creative, spark interest and are full of nature’s wonders. Children are engaged in music and art each day as I believe they are powerful tools for social emotional learning, language acquisition and early math and literacy skills. Seeing each child build confidence in themselves, in their peer groups and within their Kindy environment is such a privilege. Working with Kindergarten children is where my true passion lies and every day, I feel excited to be part of each child’s learning journey.

For fun, I love spending time with my family, exploring the great outdoors in our caravan and walking along the bay with my dogs Lola and Roxy!!
